The papers are primarily the result of Wistar's expedition with the Red Cross for Armenian relief in Anatolia in 1896. They include correspondence with his wife, Margaret Wistar, and Clara Barton, Asa Wing, J. Bevan Braithwaite as well as letters of C.F. Gates, J.B. Hubbell and Corinna Shattuck; also Wistar's diary, report to the American Red Cross, financial records and photographs. In addition, there are miscellaneous papers dealing with the hurricane disaster of 1894 in South Carolina and notes on the Japanese Red Cross Society.
